I have tried every possible combination of Optimize disk, Enable CBT, Use CBT under the option: "Advanced virtual machine configuration"
But every time I backup a VM, Data Protector makes a backup of the whole image (60Gb) while only 10Gb is actually used.
I have checked that CBT is enabled on the vSphere environment.
Anyone got this 'feature' working ?

I'm currently looking at our DP environment and we are running version 7.03. I've since found there are patches that need installing on that. The further I look in to this i can see i still have clients really old versions of DP.
Is there a way of generatinga report of clients and what patches they have installed? the only method i can see so far means look at one at a time with the following command
omnicheck -patches -host example

Can I backup the store as filesystem? E.g.:
* Stop the B2D service (or disable all store gateways)
* Backup the store root as filesystem
* Start the B2D service

I need your help with deduplication setup. We have Exchange server in data center and LTO-4 tape device in our offices. We are connected with 1 Gbit to the data center. Can I use deduplication to minimize traffic between data center and our offices? Backing up straight to the tape is around 30 MB/s, and to prevent shoeshining it should higher, But this is not possible over 1 Gbit network. The idea is to create deduplication store in our offices, connect it via iSCSI to the exchange server and use source side deduplication, this way the amount of data over network is minimized. But how can I get the data out of the store when doing object copy to the tape? I cannot access the store from different gateway. Are there other options?

we backup a lot of clients with DP, but I'm new to DP. We have several dozen backup specs, each with 10-20 clients, some of the clients have rather complex excludes.
Sometimes we have to disable backups for one or more clients. What is the best way to do this? I haven't found a satisfying way yet.
If I just remove the checkbox for a client in the backup spec source tab, it is completely removed. If I want to activate the backup again, I've to add the client again to the spec - with all the excludes. What I'm missing is the simple functionality to disable a client in a spec. It would even better, if I could also start a backup for one of the clients in a backup spec.
What am I missing?

I am looking for a parameter for the GUI that will allow me to exclude a single existing file in a directory using the editor and not by manually inserting this file in the exclude list.
Example:
The C:\xyz directory contains ONLY ONE file, e.g. "a.log". When I expand the C: drive in the DP GUI and click on the "a.log" in order to deselect it from backup, then the DP GUI automatically deselects also the C:\xyz directory and generates the following entry in the backup definition:

I know defenetely that there is a parameter (I am not sure if it is a global or omnirc one) that allows to exclude single existing files in the GUI without automatically letting the GUI to exclude the current directory, too.
Of course I can enter manually this single file in the exclude list...but having to edit a couple of hundret existing backup jobs cause of this single file, it is not so...amazing.
BTW, in this directory exists a single file that should not be backed up....but other files may be copied in this directory and that's why this directory should be backed up.
Does someone knows this parameter?

I have some tapes in here that I can not format. When I right click on the tape, the format option is not available. I am looking at these tapes from inside Media\Pools.
If I go to Devices\devicename\Slots, the Format option is available but I am not seeing the tapes that I need to format.
If I go to Media\Pools and right click on the All backup Jobs, where all these tapes are located, I can select Format. I tried formatting these tapes, and it looked like it ran, but when I checked when the format job got done, all the tapes are still unformatted.

Your physical Cell-Server was damaged.
So we install a virtuall Server install DP 8.1 (same Version as befor) and overwrite the new programdata with the old.
When we make a backup from some folders on the exchange server it works correct.
But we can not backup exchange.

I did Exchage full backup to new deduplication store with DP 9.0. The ratio is 1.8 : 1, I was expecting more. What is your dedup ratio for Exchange? We have 800 GB database with ~150 users and 5+ years mails and share folders in it.

I'm running HP Data Protector 8.00, and I'm attempting to backup a Windows 2012 R2 Failover Cluster that's hosting a half dozen File Server roles.
I have the "Cluster Server" component installed on the DP agent on both physical servers. Data protector is able to recognize the nodes inside the cluster, and they show up under Clients on the DP manager.
When I run a backup job, the hard drives and configurations for the two physical servers are able to backup without issue. However, the cluster nodes and their associated hard drives all fail to backup, showing an error along these lines:

I found some information on this error, with the most common suggestion being creating a file named "omnirc" containing a few lines of code (link). I did this and then restarted the "Data Protector Inet" service on both physical hosts in the cluster, but that was not sucessful.
I also tried manually running the backup with the network load set to "low", but the same error occurred.

I have a lab setup with DP 9 Cell Manager installted on RHEL 5.10 when I try to access the GUI logging in as hpdp user I get "Insufficient permmissions, access denied"
I have verified the fqdn of the server and I have regenerated the certificate.
We are in the process of setting up two new HP DL-380 cell managers, one as a MoM/CMMDB server with zero clients.
We are setting up the other DL-380 to accept all 1,400+ servers that we currently back up nightly.
The new cell managers currently have 64Gb of RAM, a team of 10Gb 2-port 560SFP+ Adapter NIC's along with four other 1Gb NIC's that are teamed.
We were curious to know if the one DP 8.12 cell manager would have enough throughput to handle all the backups and what that backup window would look like. We are writing all backup data to a combination of VTL's and Catalyst stores on a maxed out B6200 configuration. We cannot have a 24 hour backup window because we will also be replicating deduped data to a B4900 over a single 1Gb line.
Based on HP's assumption that DP 8.12 can handle 5,000 servers on a single cell manager.
Any suggestions or advice would be deemed helpful.

In DP 7.x the omnimigrate.pl (for Unix) and winomnimigrate.pl (for Windows) allows us to migrate clients from one CM to another (omnimigrate.pl -prepare_clients new_CM).
Unfortunately, this has been obsoleted and replaced by a new omnimigrate.pl that just performs IDB and catalog upgrades.
Is there a replacement tool that allows us to migrate clients to another CM (i.e. server refresh) or will i have to extract the perl code from DP 7.x installs?

Iam new to DP and need your help eventhrough the problem might be silly.
We have DP 6.2 running on window server 2008 using ultrium LTO4.
For a backup the session shows that its finished successfully, no errors present. But the size of backup is 2TB and it has used only one medium with max size 1.6 TB.
When you go to the medium the object are written but the available size of medium it is not change (it shows free space 100%)
