dear all ,

when i want to update the agent on the client or add component from data protector server

i see this erro :

MS Volume Shadow Copy and file was modified meanwhile

Hi,

 

can you please clarify meaning of following note? The filesystem backup with "Use Shadow Copy" ticked, "Allow fallback" unticked, "Lock files during backup" unticked.

      File is shorter than it was when it was opened.

      (was 142848 bytes, now 131072 bytes)

 

I have read the explanation in Trouble.txt but I did not expected this to happen when Volume Shadow Copy is used. With Volume Shadow Copy VBDA should read files out of the snapshot so nay modifications happening later should not matter. Also, as suggested by the Troubles.txt,  using "Lock files during backup" will defeat purpose of Volume shadow Copy as it will interfere with users suing that file. BTW, does it lokc the file when backup starts or when the file is being backed up and lock is release immediately?

HP DP 9.x Exchange Granualar Recovery console wont start (EX 2013)

Hi all

 

Have DP 9.x (patched to current) and Exchange 2013 CU6 on Windows 2012 R2.

Installed the Exchange GRE as described.

 

Console or snap-in wont start...

have also Exchange 2010 on win 2012, everythings works fine.

 

attached the error pop up

 

had done some troubleshooting, according to the GRE install and config guide (Troubleshooting section), nothing helped...

 

any help would be great

unable to browse sql instance

CM 9.01

SQL 2008 R2

 

The cell manager is installed on a server in domain A

SQL server is installed in Domain B

 

Domain A is a tree in the Domain C forest

Domain B is a tree in the Domain C forest

 

From cell manager in domain A we can configure and run a FILE job to backup files from SQL server in domain B, so we are sure there a no issue in network, user authentication etc .

 

However when we try to configure a SQL JOB we get the error "unable to browse instances" as soon as we select SQL Server host in domain B as client

 

Has anyone any Idea ?

Hi, can DP v8.x and 9.x backup this file system?

It has a BTRFS root file system which uses snapshots.

Runaway fsbrda processes

Hi,

 

with DP 9.0 and Windows, it seems that fsbrda processes are not correctly ended when omniinet service stops. They are child processes of omniinet.exe but when omniinet stops, they are abandoned and never end. Is that known problem? I have found 6 processes without parent.

Backup to be moved from one location to another

Hi ,

 

We have a filesystem which has a very deep directory structure . Approx more than 300 levels deep and size of it is 900GB .

Like this we have around 8 TB of data that needs to be moved from one location/storage to another location .

We just want to scrap this storage as of now .

How do i take this wholebackup and on what device do i take it ?

I tried through DP v 7.03 for hpux 11iv2 host , for 500MB it took 15 min, just imagine for 900GB how much time it would take.

 

Any suggestions on how do i take this forward ?

All are hpux 1iv2 hosts connected to MSL8096 library with 8GB San Switch  and LTO4 tapes.

Cant do a Backup on DP 9

Hello everyone,

 

I'm facing with a problem when try to do a backup as title say.
When Scan a tape everything goes good, but when I try to format a tape there's a i/o error.
error number 1117, major error number [90:51]

description: Cannot write to device (I/O error)

Can't record in a tape from job backup too.
In the LT&TT when trying a dev test to record got the error incorrect function.

Server windows 2012 R2 virtual from a vmware 5.5 host.

Nothing are in progress (omnistat).

IDB backup showing error

Hi,

 

My IDB backup showing following error:

 

[81:76]     F:\db40\dcbf

      Cannot perform stat(): ([3] The system cannot find the path specified. ) => not backed up

 

backup is getting completed but showing above error

 

can anyone tell me what is this error and how to resolve it?

also whtr it will affect if any rstoration is carried in future?

 

we have done OS upgradation from windows 2003 E R2 to windows 2008 E R2

DP version is 7.0

Unable to generate Backup session report

I am unable to generate backup session report from DR backup server.

we have upgraded this server OS 2003 E R2 to 2008 E R2..

can OS upgradation be the problem?

Incremental backup - how exactly it works?

Hi,

 

please can you clarify how incremental backup selects what to backup or when to back-off to full backup?

 

(1) Conventional incremental backup compares file date against the date of the last backup ( I mean date of the backup, not date of the same file from the backup)? If that's the case then I don't understand why before running the backup tree comparison is done. The tree comparison compares folders only? It must be that case since manual says that files that are moved to different location are not backed up. It seems that tree comparison solves just part of the problem

 

(1.1) When logginng of backup is set to none, where does DP find the previous tree?

 

(1.2) With OB2NOTREEWALK=1 how does tree comparison work?

 

(2) Please explain how does Enhanced incremental backup work, the Concepts guide just says it is "reliable"

DP9.0 VEPA Snapshot behavior

Hello,

 

I have DP 9.0 and implemented recently the virtual machine backup using Dataprotector-VEPA. Everything works fine, but in VMware I noticed that Dataprotector after completing the Backup does not delete the created Snapshot (_DP_VEPA_SNAP_).

My question: Is this the default behavior in DataProtector? Can I change this that the created Snapshots gets deleted once the backup job finishes?

I'm facing an issue is that whenever I start a backup job with size > 100 GB , the session is hang after completion the job and unloading the tape .

can any one help on this

Data Protector 7.0 Slow Restore Performance

Hello,

We are trying to restore an oracle backup, but we don't have any idea about why the operation is very slow.

We have two physicall servers, the original server and destination server. Both with HP-UX ia64 hp-ux- 11.31

The original and destination server have Disk Agent, Media Agent and Oracle integration everyone with A.07.00 version.

We try to restore this tablespace:

 

Tablespace            Elapsed             Size

SYSAUX:                   6:24:08           6,100 MB

UNDOTBS1:            6:24:08            99,000 MB

SYSTEM:                  6:26:54            8,800 MB

UNDOTBS2:           6:59:36            47,000 MB

USERS:                    6:15:43            10 MB

 

As can you see, the elapsed time is huge.

 

The backup size is almost 16TB, the backup using 4 channels.

 

Both backup and restore tasks directly on each server through the SAN fabric.

 

DBA's are using an script to initiated automatically the restore process.

i worked with the HP Support for more than four months, they tried everything and everytime we do the upgrade we recieve the same errors, i can't see the sessions and the devices after upgrade. please can anyone help

i have been working with HP support for the past four months, every time we do the upgrade the following is the result. i can;t see the sessions and the devices on the new DP 8.1.

 when I add a new backup under Backup>Oracle Server on DP manager the problem occurred.

 

    The Application Database dropbox lists no servicename: bank I have service name  but it is not appear here ???

what is the problem ?

and in the details :
