(HP8.0) Can only see 'Latest Backup' when doing a restore

In HP Data Protector 8.0 when doing a 'Restore' only one backup is visible athough I have manually done 3 or 4 Full Backups. The reason for asking in that suppose a word doc has had all its contents deleted by mistake and the user want a restore of from a week ago or whenever the document was complete. I have tested this and the only restore option is the latest one which of course has the doc by name but is blank. I have looked on the media and 3 different backups are listed but it only seems possible to restore from the lastest one.

Errors DataProtector 6.20 (config from Cell Manager and Interprocess communication problem)

Hi everyone.

We have configured DP 6.20 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. The client machines are HP-UX B.11.31.
We have not done any update patches on any machine before you start having these errors.
For weeks we have several errors that occur in the backup tool:

  1.  This error occurs in some of our machines, and any new backup job that also create the same error.

"[Critical] From: OB2BAR_OMNISAP @ host" OMNISAP "Time: 06/22/14 14:09:34

We have reviewed a control file is created and the restore works properly but we would like to know what happened.

2.   The other error occurs several times a week and the only solution we have found is to restart the server DP.

error 110:1027 in installing client from GUI

I am setting up the backup environment in my new job.  I have already done setting up about 70 servers, except for these last two servers.

Error message is: critical 110:1027 error connecting to client. (53) The network path was not found.  The DP service account is a member of the local admin group of the client machine.  Firewall is off.

When I try installing it from the client side, it gets done, but, when I try to import the client iin the DP GUI, it says 12:1625 import host failed.

I can see the DP client installed in the Control Panel/Programs and Features.  But when I look at the GUI, I don't see the client server under Clients.

Hi,

I have a media 800GB which was writed over 700GB (for backup). Now, I try to copy this media to tape (800GB) which using drive (Unix/Linux, block size=64KB, Segment size=2000). I get the following errors after medium replicate is too long:

[90:51]   /dev/nst0
Cannot write to device ([5] Input/output error)

[65:59]  Source medium has a larger capacity than the target medium.
 Copy on medium "2608440a:53ef425:0550:0001" failed

However, I try to copy a media (capacity under 600GB) to tape is successful

I am running DP 6.11 on Windows Server 2003R2, Ultrium LTO4, MSL4048. Besides, I also try to copy that media (over 700GB) to tape which using drive (windows, block size=64KB, Segment size=2000) is successful.

I suspect I may need to adjust something in the omnirc file in Unix/Linux?

 Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

DP 7.03 and Exchange 2010

Hi,

I'm testing the DP 2010 Exchange agent and whenever a backup or restore starts it seems to hang for about 5 minutes before starting to analyse the databases or backup/restore anything.  (It starts the e2010_bar.exe on the Exchange server immediately and this is obviously performing some task.)

Is this normal behaviour?

DP 7.03 on Win2008R2

All DP and Windows patches up to date.

Exchange 2010 SP3 (including update rollup 5)

Thanks in advance,

John

Hey guys, I seem to be experiencing an issue where the CBT databases are constantly going corrupt forcing me to have to frequently reset them. Current system is DP 8.1, vCenter 5.5, and ESXi 5.0 update 2. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone experiencing this find a fix?

Is there a report that I can run that will give me this information?

Conversely, are there some commands that I can run that will give me this iniformation?

Hi,

as we are migrating our Exchange environment from 2007 to 2013 (version CU5 which includes SP1), I want to know if HP Data Protector supprots the new Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG Failover Cluster Feature "DAG without a cluster administrative access point"?

I can't find an updated Integration Support Matrix :-(

Upgrade from 7.03 to 8.1 failing

$

Bob Clark: This is the new topic I promised.

I do need one of the new functions in 8.1x - specifically, I understand the SMI-S backups on 3PAR P7x00 systems are supported in 8.1x.  However, when I do the in-place upgrade from 7.03 to 8.1, I wind up with the IDB service simply not starting (Bob - I *HAVE* applied the security thing we discussed in case # 4647454951 we worked on trying to get 8.x to install to something other than C:).

Can the upgrade process handle moving the database drive from D: to C:?  Or is it strictly going to keep everything on the same drive letter?  Also, what about getting all the history in?  I guess I can understand trying to keep the upgrade from taking forever when a 40 GB database needs imported, but I don't like the idea of having to manually rebuild all my history by importing tapes one-by-one.  And not everyone can afford to keep two sets of equipment around just to deal with two different cell managers to keep longer-retention tapes around before they can be imported.

A few random thoughts here, yeah... but the need for the SMI-S agent is real - the EVAs are on the way out and the 3PARs are coming in here.  And soon.  I really don't want to lose that SMI-S snapshot functionality.

Exchange Granular Recovery Extension GRE

$

Hi all

I have a problem with GRE, this is my environment:

Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2

Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (we are migrating to)

Cell Manager 8.12

We have installed on Exchange 2013 the following agents:

User Interface

Documentation

Disk Agent

MS Exchange Integration

MS Exchange Server 2010+ Integration

MS Single Mailbox Integration

MS Volume Shadow Copy Integration

MS Exchange Granular Recovery Extension

all versions 8.10 with bunbled patch 812

The problem is that when i open the snap-in on the Exchange 2013 Server and click on a menu in left pane, it ask for username and password for remote power shell configuration, but always the response is (using domain administrator, the same i'm logged in):

User does not have required roles.

User should be member of the following roles/groups:

1. Organization Management (yes, i can edit the whole Exchange Configuration)

2. Discovery Management (yes, on the Admin Center and in Active Directory the Administrator is member of Discovery Management group)

3. Mailbox Import Export (i add the role in the Organization Management group and i can import/export a mailbox from/to pst via Admin Center or powershell)

Has anyone had a similar problem? I have installed a lot of Exchange with the GRE and work perfectly, this time i can't understood what i'm missing. This is my first 8.12 installation, can be a bug in the last patch bundle?

PS: on the Exchange 2010 server the GRE do not even open (addin snap-in popup forever...) but is not a problem if it's work on 2013

Thanks

Matteo

DP7.03 - Failover cluster FIle Server - after failover incremental makes full backup

$

Hi, running 7.03 on 2008R2 and a few failover cluster fileservers (2012R2). Because of some maintenance we had to move the fileserver role to another node in the cluster. We make full backup once a week and incremental on all other days. After moving the fileserver role the incremental is in fact a full backup, which serieuosly impacts my backup scheduling and windows. A bit like http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Data-Protector-Support-and-News/DP-5-5-starts-Full-instead-of-Incremental-after-failover/m-p/3992904/highlight/true#M67051. Is that still an issue in DP7? Why do they have cluster integration if they can't do this right?

DP 8.1 Login - Bad file format

$

Hello!

so since our DP 8.1 test environment getting more and more productive, we want to set up our User List.

First we worked with an admin user ("" "*" "*" * "admin"). So everyone was an admin (Who knows the cell manager and has the dp software). So now, like i said, we want to remove this user and create "client-based" user.

So either any user from and specific client, or a specific user from a specific client.

First i wanted to start withan "any user" from an specific client.

So I created this user (omniuser -add) and removed the any any admin user (omniuser -remove). I get this error message, when i want to connect to the cell manager:

"Bad file format"

If i put the any any admin user back, the login works fine. But this is not an option.

So i thought that maybe the file permissions are wrong, but it changed nothing, when i changed the file permission.

Then I thought, that there is maybe an special character mistake in the UsersList file, but this wasnt either the case.

Now I have no idea what it could be... You?

Thanks!

Slow performance on file system backup even to disk

I have a few jobs which can take days to backup a 100gb drive. Agreed it has alot of files on it but it still doesn't move very quick. I've checked with the network team and they can't see the firewalls being maxed out or anything. The system doesn't seem to be under load (cpu / memory) so I can't see why sometimes this backup can take over 24 hours to complete. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I didn't know if i had sent the file libraries correctly. I have several 2tb drives provisioned from an eva to a server, and i have them running as a file library and not a virtual tape library and its set to use distrubuted file media format. Don't know if this is good practice.

i've copied this from one of the jobs
