I have HPDP 8.0 install on Windows, Linux & HPUX environments. I have taken backups of following clients:
1. Windows FileSystem
2. Linux FileSystem
3. MS-SQL
4. MS-Exchange
5. VMWare
6. Oracle
Now, I want to upgrade HPDP 8.0 to HPDP 8.1.
Does my earlier backups will be compatible with HPDP 8.1? or Do I need to take new backups using HPDP 8.1?
We have a problem with HP data Protector 8.0. The backup session fails for one of the filesystem from the backup session. There are 8 filesystems in the backup specification out of which only one particular filesystem is failing with BMA timeout error. The all 8 filesystem are 8 different LUNs from the HP EVA 6500 storage box. The backup client is HP OpenVMS and Cell Manager is Windows 2008 R2.
We discovered this few weeks back and at that time SmDaIdleTimeout = 120 min and SmMaIdleTimeout = 140 min i.e default. Then we incresed the timeout values to SmDaIdleTimeout = 150 min and SmMaIdleTimeout = 170 min and it solved the problem.
But recently this week end we again observed same issue with the new timeout values for the same filesystem.
The backup session is incremental backup and the size of data is 3-4 GB max. Though the size of the data being backed up is very less it takes about 4-5 hours to back up.

The other filesystems are getting backedup properly regardless of the data size.
please can some one help me to find a root cause and resolution for this issue.

I am installing DP 8.0 on HP-UX 11.31 DCOE OS on vPAR(6.0) on BL890 ic4 nPar server. After changing directory to .....LOCAL_INSTALL and executing ./omnisetup.sh -CM -IS, this is the error message that i get:
./omnisetup.sh[83]: Syntax error at line 94 : 'then' is not matched.
Please what should i do to overcome that error message challenge. Thanks.

We just moved to version 7 running on a Windows 2008 server and have two tape drives that are each connected to a server. Each server is setup as a media agent.
Currently we have two backups scheduled to run daily and each backup contains development, test and production servers. What I would like to do is to seperate the clients out into three groups so that I can run my production backup first.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how this could be done. We are planning on upgrading to version 8 soon if that help.

I installed DP 8.0 CM on HP-UX 11.31. The User Interface i installed on my Windows could not connect to it.
Please show me which config file and how i should amend the configuration file at the CM to allow full access for the UI to connect to the CM.

I have a windows cell manager on v7.03 and backup a series of linux clients. For these linux backups we run a post exec script on the linux client with the following:
omniiso -session $SESSIONID -cd -out /tmp/'hostname'.iso
This appears to work and create the iso on some hosts but on others I receive error:
Error updating SRD file objects [error: -10]. Aborting
The backup otherwise works and all objects withing the client have been selected in the backup. Any ideas?
The other issue I have had with this regards the recovery of a server for which the omniiso command has worked. I have tried booting up the RedHAT linux server off the recovery iso to test the server recovery. The server boots off the CD and I see an ISOLINUX message to press enter to start recovery. Once I do this you see various text scrolling through the command prompt e.g detecting the CPUs, loading various .ko modules. A message "starting disaster recovery..." is then displayed but then the following errors are received:
Unable to open /dev/tty2: No such file or directory"
Unable to open /dev/tty3: No such file or directory"
Unable to open /dev/tty1: No such file or directory"
this repeats for a few lines and then:
"INIT: id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"
"INIT: id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"
"INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

DP 8.0 is running on HP-UX on vPAR 6.0 on Integrity BL890 ic4 npaR. I installed UI on a Windows7 PC. When connecting i get the following error message below and as attached:
"Connection to CRS failed.
To start the DP daemons on the CM host use the command omnisv -start on the CM
or check if the communication between the CM and client is encrypted with the command
omnicc -encryption -status -all on the CM".
I did all what i could by disabling encryption and by allowing access from ANY to ANY, but still i could not connect.
Please help!

It should be notedthis problemafter migration dp server in 2003 x32 to 2008 x64 every thins is ok Except this problem.

i have problem when migrade hp data protector from 7.00 to 8.00 upgrade successfully. but my problem when want start backup show backup will not start because there are no cell manager license avalible.
installation status:
idb export ok..
global option file upgrade...
notification file data upgrade.
idb account add data base ok....
install server ok...
config cell server xxxx is ok all services successfully started.

Sometimes it happens that admin add volumes (file systems) to servers without notifying the backup admin. Even though this should not happen it can happen.
How can we ensure that that all file systems that somebody might have added are in fact being backed up?

i have a Problem with an existing DataProtector 7.00 Installation and Backup VMs over the VEAgent.
I added my vCenter Server to my DP and want to setup my VMs. Friday Full and Monday till Thursday Differencial.
The "Virtual Machine Settings" are:
- Snapshot Handling: Single
- Enable CBT
- Use CBT
- Use quiescense Snapshots
- Transportation Mode: Fastest
I setup a schedule like described befor in the same backup job. My vCenter Server is Version 5.1 U2. My ESXi Servers are Version 5.1.
I can create a full backup without a Problem. Sometimes a Diff-Backup on Weekdays works, too. But the most time i get follwing error and a full backup runs instead of a diff-backup:

I have a quick question and I have been searching all day for an answer.
Context:
We have a D2D (configured as VTL) and a MSL2024 with advanced backup to disk 10TB licence.
Our MSL2024 only have one drive in it.
Problem:
During Monthly full backups, writing to physical tape is taking too long and we can't restore from other tapes during this time.
Possible solution:
My colleague found that our model of MSL2024 can have two drive in it.
Question :
From a "licensing" point of vue, if we buy another drive, do we have to buy other licences or something .... ?

During filesystem backup when monitoring the network interface the speed is very intermittant. The backup concurency is 8. It is retreeving data from 5 different servers. Large and small files.
Exchange backups run fine on constant high speed of about 50Mb/s with same tapeunit.

I don't know what to do now.
I have a cell maneger on which data protector 6.2 is installed.
12 Go Of Ram.
it has rebooted unexpectedly about 5 times now.
Each time it reboot I have to fix certains things for the backup to start working.
Yesterday we upgrade the Ram from 12 Go to 28 Go.
and the server semmed to be stable.
Today it happened again/ the server has rebooted again.
What can possibly cause this as I now know that it is not a memeory related issue.

I have a test environment of a software StoreOnce, which I cannot test it because of two problems:
1. Source-side deduplication is not working because of a bug. A case is open, but not solved.
2. Server-side deduplication is not working for all my clients, because I'm not able to select a Windows 2003 server.
Just 2008 or higher are available to add as a gateway.
On all server, 2k3 or 2k8, are the same components installed. (DA,MA,SAP R/3,MS VSCI,ADRM)
Is there a restriction for Windows Server 2003?

I just started on my job and this is the first time I am using DP 8.1 I am logged-in on the backup server as an HP service account that is a domain admin account. This service account is also a member of the local admin group of the client server I am trying to install the client on. I am getting the above error code when I try to install the client from the GUI.
I tried installing the client from the client server side and it worked. I did the omniinetpasswrd -list from the command prompt and it shows the service account.
Update:
I got it. I just had to add the user account I was using to do the installation service. I spoke to an HP tech last week and she said I should try reinstalling DP from scratch. I gave her a Not Satisfied rating.
