Restore incremental objects only

I am testing the process of migrating content from our file server to a new location.  I have successfully done a restore from the weekend's full backup.  This morning i ran a restore from restore session ofthe incremental from last night, but it wanted to first attempt a restore of the full backup.   As expected, it found the files already existed at the destination location and skipped them. 

I was able to cancel the device that the full backup contents were coming from, and then it proceeded to do the restore from the incremental.  This appeared to have worked, restoring only the modified contents from the incremental backup.  Is there another way i should be approaching this so that i dont' first have to abort the attempted full backup restore?

select media for restore

We have configured our backup to write on a backup device and on a mirror. If I want to restore from filebackup I can choose within the „copies“ tab the media. (pic1, pic2 )

When I want to restore a vmware server there is no „copies“ tab, where I can choose the media. (pic3) How can I select when restoring a Vmware the media (1 or mirror)?

Trying to get max speed out 2 x 1gb links

I have a VM which we need a File system backup of, but as the files are so big we want to try using 2 x 1gb networks just for this. I've set them up using the HP NIC teaming and i've tried to use LACP. but for some reason when i look at the server network connection i can see its only doing about 550mbps over a 2gb Link. Any idea how i can speed this up. Is there any particular setting i should be using on DP to help increase this speed?

 

If it helps i'm using DP 7.03 and i'm backing up from a VM which has a 10gb CNA card to a DL585 G1 with 2x 1gb links on NIC teaming

Monthly backup setup

Hi,

 

We are running DP A.06.20 on a Windows 2003 server. We do incremental backups Monday thru Saturday and a full backup on Sunday and we expire them after 8 weeks. To make things a little difficult we have a our month end on a Friday but not always the last Friday of the month. Sometime it's on the second last Friday. I do have a list of the dates.

 

What I would like to do is save the full backup that we make on the Sunday following month end on a seperate set of tapes for archiving. Currently our full backup resumes from where the previous day's incremental finished. In short I would like to do is to copy a given backup session to a seperate set of tapes.

 

Does anybody have any ideas on how to do something like this and willing to share.

Can the 8.1 be applied over the top or do I go for a fresh install from scratch

DP8.1 upgrade

We just upgraded from DP 8  to DP 8.1.  Now to get into the GUI it is asking for a user name and password.  Is this something we need to request from HP or is there a default out there?

Deleting File device library

Guys,

 

I've created a file library for a test and i then deleted the files it used from the o/s and now when i try to remove it wont let me as it thinks it has files already on it. How can i delete this library, I don't care about what files that were on this library. 

 

Is there a text file i can remove this test library from?

DP8.1 Server on RHEL6, 8.0 GUI on Win7: "Object not found or access denied"

Hi,

 

I have DP 8.1 server installed on RHEL6 and 8.0 GUI on Windows7 (8.1 GUI crashed on connect, but that's another issue)

 

When I try to do things like edit user info, I get "Object not found or access denied.".  I can't find any more info in the server logs.  Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place.  Does anyone know which log(s) I should be looking at or how to go about fixing this?

Upgrade Dataprotector version from v6 to v7

I read "Installation and Licensing Guide" document, and i see that there is a limitation when we want to upgrade dataprotector version from v6 to v7.

 PFB,.

 

"If you are upgrading to Data Protector 7.00 on Windows, HP-UX, and Linux systems, the enhanced
incremental backup database cannot be migrated to the new version. The old enhanced incremental
backup repository is deleted from the Data_Protector_home\enhincrdb\mount_point
directory. During the first full backup after the client upgrade, a new repository is created at the
same location. Notice, that the first backup after the upgrade should be full."

 

Please help to explain, what the meaning of incremental backup database cannot be migrated to the new version?

DB2 Integration - first full offline database backup

Hi,

according to documentation, to enable online backups of DB2, "First backup up the database offline to non-Data Protector media"

Why offline backup must be done, and how to avoid that?


From documentation:
Before you begin
To enable online backups of DB2 objects, set the DB2 logretain and userexit parameters to ON (in a partitioned environment, on every node on which the object resides). Then restart the database for the new parameters to take effect and perform a full offline database backup.

Problem
Online backup is not allowed
DB2 reports:
Online backup is not allowed because either logretain or userexit for roll-forward is not activated, or a backup pending condition is in effect for the database.
Action
After configuring the DB2 database for rollforward recovery (userexit and logretain ON), first back up the database offline. If online backup is started first, the above error is reported.

CONNECTION TO CRS Failed

Hello Expert,

 

CM DP7.0 , Plateform HP-UX B.11.31, this is in cluster with DRBKP01 & DRBKP02

 

Client DP7.0, Plateform Windows server 2008 Enterprise

 

Problem Description:- Not able to import Client from Cell Manager and from client side when trying to connect with CM getting error -- connection to crs failed

 

please see the attached screen shot from client server

 

kindly help us how to fix the issue.

AsBackupDeviceI have adisk in aNAS,andI haveconfiguredon thatonediskdeduplicationstore.


Nosuchperformingsystem recoverybackupif the serverdoes not start.

With atapelibrary,the procedure would be:
-Reinstallthe ServerManagerCell
-Configuirarthelibrarybackup
-Importthistapewherethe lastbackupoftheIDB
-Restorethe latestbackupofIDB

When thebackupis in adeduplicationstore,do not know howto perform this procedure.

Command to get Backup Spec list with certain filtering

Just wondering if there is any DP command which will list down all the backup spec with retention time. Like

 

Spec_1, 30days

Spec_2, Permanent

Spec_3, 1Week

 

Any nearest command will be apprciated as well.

Data protector reports have the wrong date (US Format) not UK

I have some reports set and when i run a report the date is in US format. I noticed that the O/S was set to US as location, so i've changed it on the O/S but its still showing the reports in U/S format. I can't see anywhere on DP where i get it to list in UK format.

 

DP sessions do actually list in UK format, but when i run the report is still in the wrong date format.

HI team ,

 

Recently we had server restart & after which hpdp-idb service is not able to come up.

Pls help. HP Support is not responding properly.

 

Our all backups are pending.

StoreOnce software federated deduplication

Hi.

 

I couldn't find any post or material on the internet related to this subject, so i'm hoping anyone can help me here in the forums.

 

I need to set up two StoreOnce software deduplication solutions on top of Backup to Disk devices. These virtual devices will be located on different hosts at different sites. I need to ensure that any copy operations that occur between these devices are not rehydratated, so i can minimize bandwidth requirements between the production site and the remote datacenter.

 

Is there any way to achieve this with virtual backup devices and data protector alone?
