help with installing linux client dp 6.2

Hi:

We have the dp6.2 on a windows server, but the installation both on the windows server, and on a linux client.

We put up a new linux server (redhat 6.5), and I am having trouble installing the disk agent on it, while I had little trouble doing this a few years ago with a linux server (redhat 4). I understand that the 6.5 is much more security concious than 4.

In any event, I changed the .omnirc on the linux server (which has the installation files) to run ssh. I also built ssh keys, and I can ssh root@redhat6.5 wihout it asking for a password. Unfortunately, when I try to install the da on the linux 6.5 client, it still asks for root's password which I supply, but it says it can't connect and repeatedly asks for the password, until I give up and cancel.

Any idea what to do? I could install from the cd I guess, but I don't have it, and I can't seem to find 6.2 install cds on the web anymore, just 7 and up. Does anyone have a link to the 6.2 linux cd's?

Thanks

We are in DP V8.0

I try to restore a only tablespace at a time without restoring all the database. It's a TSPITR in oracle langage.

i try to execute it with rman command line but i have an error. With the DP GUI it seems not to be possible.

Is there a solution with DP to to TSPITR ?

No mirror device with suitable block size found during vStorage Image backup

Hello everyone,

Recently i set up Data Protector Virtual Environment backup through my vCenter server. Integration went smoothly and I can backup all my VMware virtual servers thorugh Data Protector Virtual Environment.

Just this weekend I ran first full backup of whole virtual environment and it completed without errors.

Then I created and scheduled incremental backup for this environment with Snapshot Handling set to Single and enabled Changed Block Tracking (same settings are for full backup too). Reason for having two different jobs for full and incremental is that only some virtual machines are included in incremental backup, all other are included only in full backup.

Tha problem that happened on incr backup is that 2 virtual machine have this error:

[Major] From: BSM@backup-server "VMware_LAN_incr" Time: 19.3.2014 10:09:17
FAILED to start mirror of object BAR vcenter-server:/%2FDatacenter/4/%2FDatacenter%2Fhost%2FCluster%2Fserver "VEAgent" to mirror group "1".
No mirror device with suitable block size found.

One of those VMs gets backed up successfully with status Completed, but only on central tape device and not on mirror tape device. Second VM isn't backed at all and gets Failed status. All othere VMs are backed up successfully on both tape devices.

My Environment:

- Data Protector 6.2, patched, installed on Win 2k3 Standard

- Tape - IBM System Storage TS3100 LT04, connected with CellManager via SCSI

- VMware ESXi 4.1.0

- both problematic VMs are Win 2k3 Server

Is this normal behavior or …?

DP - Support Tip - DP 8.1 'hpdp-idb' service will not start

Problem:

After updating to DP 8.1, the hpdp-idb service does not start:

If, prior to the DP 8.1 upgrade, DP 7 or 8.0 had all files in a common directory, for example

C:\Program Files\OmniBack

or

D:\DataProtector

We have found that the update to DP 8.1 creates a file "C:\Program" and does not clean it up after the installation, even it has been successfully.

It looks like this file is only left over in case of updating DP installations that utilize a common directory.

Look for the folder '\Program' and delete it for example

C:\Program

or

E:\Program

My Windows OS unable to boot up . Black screen, Error message: "McAfee Endpoint Encryption Fatal Error: [0xEE020006] Getting disk info."

My Machine details:

Machine: HP EliteBook 8470P (D0N55PA)
HDD: WD7500BPKT (750GB, 7500rpm, 2.5”)
OS 1: Windows 7 64x (Installed on Disk 0, Partition 1)…Primary and on use all the time.
OS 2: Windows 8 64x (Installed on Disk 0, Partition 2)..secondary and back up OS.

Partition 2: 100GB, NTFS, Label: Win 8
Partition 3: 200GB, NTFS, Label: Data
Partition 4: 376GB, NTFS, Label: PSD

I get my local IT engineer to support. He reinstall windows 8 under partition 2. Machine was able to restart with windows 7 & windows 8, but the both OS unable to recognise partition 3 & 4, thus request to format it!
Our engineer has tried multiple type of solution to recover the data which available from the internet by using disktech with various version, but the most close is disk tech 2012 from HP.
However after booting with disktech2012 software, the program can accept the drive encryption key, but the particular partition 3 & 4 was showing blank as nothing is inside.

Therefore please advise how we can recover the data on partition 3 & 4.

Software details:
The machine was installed with:
HP ProtectTools Security Manager Ver.  7.0.2.1213
Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools ver. 7.0.100.3001

Upgrading 6.20 on a W2K3 32-bit CM to 7 (or 8.1)

Hi,

I'm planning a much-needed upgrade of my DP environment, going from 6.20 on a W2K3 32-bit cluster to 7.0 on a W2K8 R2 64-bit cluster.

I had originally considered going straight to 8.1 but it became clear that that wouldn't be possible as W2K3 isn't supported.

So my plan was to upgrade to 7.0 on my current system, then transfer and convert the IDB for 64-bit on the new platform in line with the steps in the Installation Guide. However, a check of the Support Matrix suggests that DP7.0 doesn't support 32-bit W2K3.

Can anyone suggest how best to approach this problem?

Is it possible to integrate IDB files from a 6.20 IDB into a 7.0 (or 8.1) installation?

Any advice would be welcome...

Thanks,

Bob

Backup Failed, Cannot connect to inet for getting filesystem list

Hi guys

I'm in dilemma.

The particular server suddenly failing to backups.

So here's the information:

3 servers in the same segment, 2 able to backup and 1 failed:

[Critical]

[61:12500] Cannot connect to inet for getting filesystem list
on host"fqdn".

[Warning]

Cannot get the list of filesystems on host "fqdn".
Backup of this host will be retried at end of session.

[Warning]

[61:2013] Some of the backup devices are occupied. Session is waiting
for all the devices to get free.

We are using port 5555 for the communication.

All servers are able to telnet port 5555 to the cell server.

Cell server able to telnet all servers accept the one failing, on port 5555.

What I've done, verified firewall port is open from cell to failed server - OK

Verified that local firewall on failed server is turned of - OK

Verified that port 5555 is listening on failed server - OK

Verified that cell server can telnet to port RDP 3389 to the failed server - OK

Reinstalled DP agent on the failed server, for about 5 times - Services OK

Removed server from Cell server, and re-added. - Not OK

I know this sound like firewall issue but the network team has confirmed the port is open.

Anyone has experienced this and how should I move forward???

Thank you so much in advance.

PS: DP agent version is 6.10, same across all 3 servers

Backup data encryption in DP7

Hello Expert,

Need advice from you experts on my current DP setup.

I am using Dp 7.01 with cell manager on windows 2008 R2 64bit. All the clients in the enviornments are winodws only and total clients we have is around 30. During this year auditing the auditor has raised the concerned for backup data encryption. Currently I am using MSL2024 with ultrium 3 drive at production site and standalone tape drive with ultrium 3 on DR site.

Now as per auditor I need to encrypt my backup data. I belive I have 2 options here

1. Drive based encryption

2. Software based encryption

My concerned over here is what are the limitations of drive based encryption and software based encryption. I hears there are performance issue in software based encryption so I don't want to go for that. Hence my option will be drive based encryption only.

Can anyone suggest what are the limitations of drive based encryption? Also I need to upgrade the ultrium 3 to minimum of ultrium 4 to use drive based encryption. Do I need to upgrade this drive to both site production and DR as I am restoring my production backup at DR regularly for testing.

Also if I take increment backup can I be able to restore it at DR since at DR I have standalone tape drive?

Please excuse me if I am not very clear.

Many thanksfor any help in advance.

Regards,

DP 8.1 - vCenter 5.5 on Linux and GRE

Hi Folks,

I am trying to deploy the web plugin for VMware/GRE on a vCenter server running under Linux (SLES).

I downloaded the OVF template for Linux from VMware and my client wants to use that.

I read and studied carefully the integration guide, but somehow, the war files for the tomcat instance are just not getting installed on the vCenter server.

Any ideas or limitations?

I checked out another client of mine and their cell manager is running on Windows and from there I can select the web-plugin for deployment.

I have never read in the support matrix that vCenter under Linux is not supported.

Thanks
