Migrating from a.06.20 to 7.0
Hello!
Now i'm trying to migrate from DP a.06.20 to 7.0.
Must I first upgrade existing cell manager to 7.0 version?
I'm confused because I read the following in HP Data Protector 7.0. Installation Guide:
"The upgrade to Data Protector 7.00 is only supported for Data Protector A.06.10, Data
Protector A.06.11, and Data Protector 6.20."

patchs 7.01 linux x64
Hello
I try to install patchs on Centos 6 64 bits.
On this client, I've jsut RPM installed
they are :
OB2-CORE-A.07.00-1.x86_64.rpm
OB2-DA-A.07.00-1.x86_64.rpm
They juste have Disk Agent
And in the consol management I can see the version and it's 7.00 (no patches)
When I lunch omnisetup.sh to patchs the computer, it says
Data Protector version A.07.00 found
Client detected, installed packets: da
omnisetup.sh has got nothing to process, exiting...
So I don't understand, and I don't know what rpm installed (manually).

IPC Read Error System error: [232] - ECC Issue?
Since we've enabled ECC many sessions fail with IPC errors. Have you seen similar errors and how could the issue be fixed?

HP Data Protector disk and media agent installation on qnap TS-X69U
I know it is not officially supported by HP, but it works for me. This way i dont have to have a separate server just for a media or disk agent.

Data Protector 7 Active Directory group authentication

We are installing a new DP7 environment. After the initial installation, we have found out that it is not possible to add AD groups to the DP internal admin group. Is it something that is possible? Available in version 8? Available if using MOM?

Data protector DB corruption
Hi,
I have an HP system running HP-UX B.11.00, with HP OpenView Storage Data Protector A.05.50;
the internal DB is corrupted, and I couldn't find up to now how to fix it.
Any hint or guideline about a tutorial explaining how to rebuild DP database?

Session results / Statistiscs has the same Amount og written data 1235904 MB

I have a weird issue, In many backups, Exchange 2010 DB, SQL 2008r2 DB, and some file backup I get the same amount of written data in the session report results.

DP 7.0 IDB Purge
I am facing a strange issue after upgrading to the latest patches. I am trying to ung the following command
omnidbutil -purge -filenames -force
I get an output "Filename purge session started."
but when i check the GUI i don't see any session running.

Upgrade Dataprotector 7.0 > 8.0 fails

The upgrade failed on me. I do have a backup of the 7.0 OmniBack directory. But after the installation the database fails to start. That doesn't suprise me since the update logs returned the following update results:

Slow SAP backup after changing Cell Manager's IP address
Hello experts,
we run DataProtector 6.2 Cell Manager on HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC.
We backup SAP database online via integration in DP.
LAN backup of 200 GB database takes about 1 and a half hour.
We put the Cell Manager to other DMZ so we transfered the licences, changed IP address, DNS, firewall rules...
Everything seems OK but the same backup of 200 GB SAP database now takes more than 5 hours.
There are no errors in DP log.
Checked the firewall and LAN but no problems found.
Is there any config within DP, where I need to change IP configuration?
Hostname isn't changed.
Has anyone any idea?

Is multiple store_root -path can be configured in storeonce software

I am usng DP7.01 with cell maager on windows 2008R2. I am using StoreOnce software for backup on disk. I would like t know is it possible to have multiple store_root -path for a cell manager? I want store_root -path not store as I know multiple store can be created.

The VBDA reached its inactivity timeout of 7200 seconds. The agent on host will be shutdown.

I have an environment with Data Protector 7 Cell Manager installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and agents installed on Novell Netware 6.5. The servers are communicating perfectly (ping) and were successfully imported in the Cell Manager.
I configured a job to backup some volumes of Netware servers.
Backups begin, however after a few hours of backup, in a given volume I get the following error message:
[61:1002] The VBDA named "VOLUME:" on host *
Reached its inactivity timeout of 7200 seconds.
The agent on host will be shutdown.
What should be done? Should I increase the timeout?

Invalid Block Sequence Number on Object Copy by Session
We have been running backups to a Data Domain VTL on one site, replicating the virtual tapes to another site, importing the virtual tapes into the Cell Server on that site, and then using those replicated tapes to copy to physical tapes for archive storage. This has been working very well for several months, until about February of 2013 when it stopped working. No changes to the patches were made, or any other Data Protector configuration that we can think of. We are using DP 6.2 on a Windows 2008 R2 cell manager. We have the current patches installed, except for the CORE and the CS, which look like they just recently came out with some new ones. We have been working fine in this current configuration, until it just stopped working. When we run the copy of the session, we get the following error:

From there, it fails that one object, and then continues to copy the next object. It goes until it reaches the end of that virtual tape, and then fails with some error about not any more media to copy or something. That part isn't what I'm concerned with as much as the invalid block sequence number issue. I've looked at several other posts on the forum which suggest things from the OB2SHMIPC=0 in the omnirc file to making sure that the source and target drives have the same block size, to updating patches, to getting SSP's from HP, etc, etc. The omnirc file already had the OB2SHMIPC=0 in it, we changed the block size to the same size (64K), and all patches (except for the most recent CORE and CS) were already installed. We can copy other VTL tapes to physical tape, but for some reason the ones that were replicated from the remote host and imported fail. Here is the wierd thing, the error complains about the block sequence on the TARGET drive, not the SOURCE drive! The target tape is a blank formatted tape with nothing on it. So how can it expect 0, but get some other value?

Data Protector IDB shows failure of backup, but no error or failure shows on Log
Hi everyone. I haven't seen this before, so I figured I would share it. I have a few backups last night that shows that they failed in the Database listing. However, when looking thru the logs, there is NO error, and the log reads that the backup was successful.
Has anyone else ever seen this? And if so, how do I correct this to accurately depict that these particular sessions weren't a failure? Thanks to all! Logs and screenshot attached.

Is there an easy way to keep longer periods of catalog data?
I'm extremely new to Data Protector so please forgive me if this is an obvious question. I was basically "thrown to the wolves" when our Data Protector guy left and I was told to do the job despite having zero knowledge of Data Protector. One issue I'm running across is that we have so much data we're backing up--not only size wise but thousands of small files--that our Data Protector catalog can only keep about 1-2 weeks worth of data in it. Restores are a pain if the file I need to backup is on a tape that's no longer in the catalog. I've been trying to figure out if there is a way to keep older vesrions of the catalog--maybe on another cell manager?? For example could I create another cell manager to house catalog data that is about to expire before it's wiped out of the main database? Does what I'm asking even make sense? What I'm trying to figure out is a way to keep a months worth of catalog data even if our main cell manager can only keep 1-2 weeks worth (like dump the catalog to another file or something).

Linux Client IPC Invalid Hostname or IP Address

I've a problem. It's present only on Linux client.
When I want to select files I want to save with HP data protector Manager or when I launch my backup job I've this error message for all of linux client.

My clients (with disk agent) ping my cell manager and the server with Media agent.
The cell manager ping client with Disk agent and the server with Media agent.
In the host file of the cell manager I've all of my client like this
ip name name.domain
And in the hosts file for my linux client I've the cell manager and Media agent server like this
IP cell-manager cell-manager.domain
IP MA MA.domain
For windows it works but not for linux. And I don't understand why.
