I am on customer site and we are testing DP9.07 with catalyst and cached vmware backups.
how do you clean up mount points as the GRE web interface comes up with errors and leaves mount points still mounted on the linux proxy....
just seems temperamental....
any help would be useful
I have a question about the best way to backup vm's on a Hyper V failover cluster.
Do I use the VSS transportable backup (with the installed haredware provider on the hyper hosts) or do I specify a bacukp through Virtual Env Integration?
I am coming from DPM and Falconstor, both do synchronizations, with timemarks (full backups at the appliance similiar to a synthetic or virtual full). I havent done a FULL backup in ages.
One of my file servers takes 10 hours, exchange 6. What is everyone doing to reduce backup times? Are synthetic or virtual fulls the way to go. We have a storeonce on the backend.
Thank you,
Theron Cooper
Hi,
The logging level is one of the options which can be set for a backup or object copy or consolidation. See the screen captures for the location in the "Backup" and "Object Operations" GUI context. The logging level determines the volume of detail on files and directories written to the IDB during backup, object copy or object consolidation sessions.
Please note that, as opposed to what you may be expecting, "Log Files" will not allow a fast (single) file restore. When restoring from a backup made with "Log Files", the offsets for seeking to the file are missing. If a fast file restore is desired then the backup should be made with "Log All". This way the offsets will be available and a seek right to the file will be possible.

Hi,
The logging level is one of the options which can be set for a backup or object copy or consolidation. See the screen captures for the location in the "Backup" and "Object Operations" GUI context. The logging level determines the volume of detail on files and directories written to the IDB during backup, object copy or object consolidation sessions.
When using the "Log Directories" level during backup, the restore context will not show you any files contained in the selected directories. This is as expected. Now, please be careful when mixing the "Log Directories" level with others for the same object. The result will be that files, backed up with "Log Files" or "Log All" will become visible in the restore context. However, the version of the "Log Directories" backup will be missing. This is also as expected, but can become very confusing. For that reason, I would discourage the usage of "Log Directories" together with "Log Files" or "Log All" for the same object. Unless there's a very specific reason, it's recommended to stick to one and the same logging level.
Please also see my related DP Support Tip: Log level "Log Files" will not allow a fast single file restore.

Hi,
Many of my backup session ended abnormally.
Messages. - Could not connect to inet in order to start BMA
I checked - 1) ping from client to server, 2) port 5555 from the client to the server is available.
What else can be the cause of the problem? Thanks!

I have an admin who has the question "‘How do you add StoreOnce Devices to a HP VSE guest?’". Our HPVM is running HP-UX 11.31 and HPVM Version B.06.30.05. I can 'see' the Catalyst over Fiber on the host but am unable to get it visible on the guests. Any whitepaper? Docs? the CM is also running HP-UX 11.31 and DP 9.07. The Catalyst over Fibre works like a charm o nthe stand alone systems...
Here is the fiber on the host system.

The answer is: No, it doesn't make a lot of sense.
Note we are talking about the software implementation of a StoreOnce server within Data Protector. In this case administrators have full access to the file system where the Store Root is located and so a defragmentation could be run on it.
Just think about the way data is written to this file system. Typical for StoreOnce is that data is split into relatively small chunks. Only when the chunk has not been written before (checked using a hashing algorithm) it will first be compressed (and so becomes even smaller) and after that it will be written to the file system somewhere in one of the 24 dvol directories. Some chunks will be written, others won't. When restoring the file, all the chunks will be read again. That is the ones that have newly been written when storing the file, but possibly also older ones.
The nature of this system is typically resulting in random reads on the file system. So the data being read could be seen as "fragmented" anyhow. That's why defragmentation of this file system will typically not result in a big performance gain.
Dear Team,
i am adding clients to the cell manager, so far i have addded 3 clients sucessfully.

Hi ,
I'm currently implementing Storeonce solutions for backup in my environment.
my environment - cell manager 9.07 [RHEL 6.8] - RMC [3.0] is integrated in cell manger.
only exception is here that i do initiate backup job from RMC [storeonce is used as target] and i want to offload backedup data to tape [MSL]
storeonce 6500
MSL 6840
i want to offload data [backed up by Recovery manager central] from storeonce to tape. is there any option to do this configuration? any suggestion would be highly appriciated.
many thanks

I am running DP9.07. Just before upgrading from 9.06 to 9.07 our Data Protector is reporting a wierd error. I can get it to happen even just by trying to format a tape. What is wierd is that it happens... the tape does get formatted... then the message happens again.... and again... Ideas how to debug? Our CM is HP-UX 11.31. The tape library is an MSL6060

I need to know about Oracle disaster recovery by Data Protector 8.13 because now I'm using Oracle integration to save Database, Archivelog, Control file. I want to restore the whole databases, that is datafile and archivelog, and Oracle configuration.
My backup include database, archivelog, controlfile. I'm not use recovery catalog in Oracle.
First it's necessary to install Oracle server (the same version), then I have to recover control file (or recovery catalog) and after database+ archivelog.
I read it in "HP Integration Guide for Oracle and SAP" docoument but It's an complex process where the only DP gui is not able to restore all data but I need to run rman commands tom complete job.
I ask myself what right procedure is for restore Oracle DB by DP in disaster recovery with minimal steps.
Hi All
I have a backup in my 9.06 DP environment.
Backup runs perfectly except for my 2 large WIndows File Servers.
Over the past 3 weeks these servers are either taking 3 times as long to back up or just sit at 'Running' actually doing nothing except filling up their respective Debug logs.
I am seeing the following (See below) this entry is repeated constantly and both debugs are sitting at around 6GB.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
