Hi experts,
My customer has a DP license question that needs your help.
Question 1: Online extension licensing
They have 3 Vmware hosts in their environment, and there are 8 virtual servers on these hosts with database applications to be backed up online. Do they need 3 online extension licenses for the Vmware hosts to be backup up via vmware VDP or 11 online extension licenses for both 3 Vmware hosts and 8 virtual database application servers?
In the product bulletin, there are 2 lines saying different things regarding licensing for the online backup of these 8 virtual database application servers: In one line, it says it’s only recommended, in another line, it says it’s required. Which is correct? 3+8 = 11 online extensions or only 3 online extensions?
Question 2: All this data will be backed up to an ordinary disk system or an HP storeonce. Which DP extention licenses do they need in addition to online extensions mentioned above?
1. 1 DP backup drive for NAS? (they won’t backup to a NAS. they will backup a NAS to a ordinary disk system or a StoreOnce deduplication appliance via NDMP)
2. Direct backup for NDMP? (11 TB license for backup of file based NAS section of the unified storage system).
3. Advanced Backup to disk? (7 TB (block data) + 11 TB (NDMP backup) = 18 TB (btw, they know they need to license the usable native capacity, .i.e. if the capacity of the appliance is 20TB they will license 20 TB, not only 18TB)
Thank you and Best regards.
