Error from all clients in the CM

Directory is a mount point to a different filesystem.
Backed up as empty directory without extended attributes and ACLs.

Cannot see upgraded drives firmware on client.

I have a client (linux) zoned to tape drives over SAN for SAN bakcup.
I recently upgraded tape drives to latest firmware, but on client when I run cat /proc/scsi/scsi, it still shows old firmware of drives. Can anybody help me to know how to scan or see latest firmware.
I dont want to reboot the client.

HPDP requests a tape that not exists

Hello together,

our HP DP 9.03 request this tape
 Mount request for medium:
        MediumId        : fe81fde5:53847f36:0550:0002
        Label           : 503331L5
        Location        :
        Device          : xxx
        Host            : xxx
        Slot            : 27

in slot 27 it is a tabe with the label 503331L5 but with the medium id d41ea8c0:562a10bc:400c:0007
Now i want set the protection of    MediumId        : fe81fde5:53847f36:0550:0002 to  permanent.
Or can you tell me to thay HPDP to use an other medium if one medium will not be found, because there are 40 Tapes in freepool, so enouth to use.

If you are configuring the environment described in the title:

"Non-staged VMware GRE smartcache devices based on Storeonce NFS/SMB network storage."

And in the middle of your backups to these devices,  you experience disconnections or poor performance. Please check this Customer notice:

There were some problems both in CIFS and NFS causing disconnections and poor performance that should have been resolved with the latest Storeonce firmware:

  • CIFS shares periodically losing connection

  • CIFS share failed due to Cannot write to device [64] The specified network name is no longer available

  • Unable to manage CIFS share permissions on appliances that are members of an Active Directory domain

  • Poor performance of backups to CIFS shares with Veeam software

  • NFS shares fail to start

  • NFS performance improvements

  • NFS Share created as write-protected cannot be changed to non-write protected

If you have already installed the latest firmware and the issue persists, please contact StoreOnce support to ensure they provide you with the right fixes for these known issues.

Dell ULT-3580 Tape is Connected but Drives and Slots are not showing in HP Data Protector. It is showing only the Tape Name but not showing Slots in Tape.

Please find the attachment. How the tape is showing in HP Data Protector Cell Manager

In Device Manager Tape Drive is showing but in HP Data Protector Medias are not showing. It is showing some error, there is no media's.

 

Multiple drives on SQL Backup

I have an Sql server with four diferent databases.

Can i use multiple drives for the backup? I have already set 4 drives but only one it used from the backup.

Configuration
Three Red Hat Linux Virtual Machines clustered.
The three Linux Virtual Machines systems in the cluster shared a single ESXi host.
A database application each night dumped the database data to a directory on a separate disk.
Data Protector 8.x did a simple file level backup of the dump directory.

Problem
Every night, for random different files, there were errors

Solution
After changing the configuration so each of the three Linux Virtual Machine systems, in the cluster, had their own individual ESXi host, the backup worked each night without error.

Hello,

I noticed that directory D:\ProgramData\OmniBack\server\db80\pg\pg_xlog_archive grown to over 30 GB and I would like to know if those files are needed or is it safe to delete them.

How can I decrease the size of that directory.

Truncate Exchange logs with VEPA backup using Quiescence Snapshot

Does anybody how to configure the job or Exchange to truncate logs after a VEPA backup using the Quiescence Snaphot option ?

At moment no logs are truncated because Exchange 'thinks' that only a copy or differential backup is being made from the stores.

Data Protector 9.0 Insufficient Permissions while Logging in GUI

When openning the GUI, it asks me for the username and password, but it is returning Insufficient permission, access denied warning message.

The username and password does work before. Is there anyway to reset it or creating a new one? Thanks!

Pre Exec Script

Hello!

 

I have a pre-Exec-Script running in a data-protector-job.

This Batch-script is calling another script.

Script1.cmd
echo start
start "" /wait Script2.cmd
echo end

 

All is running fine, but the data protector job will abort after the defined time with "Failed".

 

How can I tell DP that the scripts end and the DP-Job can go further?

Exchange 2010 restore fails

We are running 9.05. I am attempting to perform a "files only" restore of an Exchange 2010 database.  I am getting an error related to the Microsoft Exchange Writer(Exchange Replication Service) writer not being found. The server I'm trying to restore to does not have this writer. According to Microsoft this particular writer has nothing to do with restores (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876874%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx - The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer doesn't support restores). Has anyone else ran into this? This seems like a bug unless I'm missing something.  Why is the restore job looking for a writer that isn't used for restores?

[Cause]
It has already been reported as CVE-2014-2623 (SSRT101644) .


[Workaround / Fix]
Please consider to enable Encrypted Control Communications (ECC) services on the cell server and all of the clients in cell.
Even if ECC is enabled , Qualys Guard will keep reporting that message
because Qualys Guard will not check about ECC settings .
Please contact Qualys Guard support to confirm if the message can be stopped .


setup has detected an older version 00.00 of data protector

Good morning friends please their support, I have problems with the agent installation data protector 9 on a Windows Server 2008 32bit server operating system patch is applied as a prerequisite for installation, which is the patch (KB2748349). You try to install the agent but get error "setup has detected an older version of Data Protector 00.00".

He is explaining that before the version 7 data protector agent tapeworm, have reviewed the web and indicate clean the windows registry, and debugging entries with the name of "protecting", "omni", the OmniBack Program and ProgramData folders are purged files, but still the problem persists.

If you know of any additional input to be eliminated or please indicate if you have any recommendations to overcome this incident will be very grateful.

DataProtector 9 BMA.exe fails when trying to launch backup on Windows 2008

Hi Everbody,

I encountered backup problem for one of the windows server.

DP version and server OS

Cell Server: DP version - A.09.0.2 (BDL902)
OS : HPUX 11.31

Client server: Media Agent version - DPWIN00717(BDL902)
OS : Windows 2008 Enterprise Server 32bit SP2

Problem
When lauching the Windows filesystem backup, the following error was prompted and aborted this backup job.

In the client server, I notice there is application fault about the BMA.exe as below.

error while taking backup

Dear Sir/Madam,

 

we are taking a backup of our PRD server. however we are getting this error.

backup was working properly, sudenly it has started giving this error.

 


Cannot connect to Media Agent on system bkp1, port 49894 (IPC Invalid Hostname or IP Address) => aborting.

 

(DP) Support Tip: IDB backup fails Cannot lock the keystore, Key Store Database corrupted.

Problem

A Data Protector Internal DataBase backup fails...

One solution that may help solve this problem

- Ensure no Data Protector sessions are in Progress
so `omnistat` says "No currently running sessions".

- Stop DP (`omnisv -stop`)

- if present, delete the "dbcheck.keystore" file.
Windows default location - \ProgramData\OmniBack\tmp

- Start DP (`omnisv -start`)


An alternative problem/solution that may help (if the above does not help)

Sometimes the DP "KMS" service is down:
    rds     : Active  [4188]
    crs     : Active  [4840]
    mmd     : Active  [4236]
    kms     : Down                               
    uiproxy : Active  [4836]
    omniinet: Active  [4732]
    Sending of traps disabled.

The solution that may help solve this problem

- Ensure no Data Protector sessions are in Progress
so `omnistat` says "No currently running sessions".

- Stop DP (`omnisv -stop`)

- if present, rename the "kms_audit.log" file.
Windows default location - :\ProgramData\OmniBack\log\server\

- Start DP (`omnisv -start`)

Credentials for push install of new clients.

This is a two part question, basic stuff....

  1. When adding multiple clients at once, it will ask me for my credentials for each individual client.  Is there a way to enter the credentials only once or is that just the way DP works?
  2. I am using my own admin account to push the client disk agent.  Are my credentials being recorded on the client?  When I have to change my password, is the backup for any client I pushed going to fail?  Or are my credentials only used for the install and that’s the only time they are referenced?
