DP - The best way to back up data (SAP, VMWARE, WinFS, SQL)

Hi Friends,

 

i'm new in dataprotector , but already learning a manual. Now i need experiencie.

 

I work in company with:  SAP, VMwares, SQL Servers, Active Directory and File System

 

in DP  there many possibilities of backup data, so i have doubt, what do chosse?

 

 

For example:

 

Backup Dayly

 

Job 1- I have SERVER01 and run DataProtector File System, It backup all my drive C:  and backup CONFIGURATION:: for c: too.

 

Job 2 - I have SERVER01 and run Data Protector Virtual environment Backup, i belive it backups all my  virtual disk from server01, correct?

 

So i have two backups from the SERVER01, and i ask me,  is it ideal? is it correct solution?

 

and MSSQL-SERVER  run filesystem and Data Protector MSSQL Server Backup, but don t run Virtual environment backup this Virtual Disk.

 

So i have this doubt about  it, what is correct?

I have this new TL with 200+ slots but licnesed only 60. I am uable to run a backup. I get below error:

DP 6.1 error "target drive is busy" only on one drive

Hi,

I have 2 logical drives on one library, each drive is backing up from another NetApp controller.
1 drive is working fine but the other suddenly stopped working with the same error each time I try to run a backup:
Cannot load exchanger medium (Target drive is busy.)
I tried all the solutions I know:
- Change from abort to unload.
- Restarted the robot and the server.
- Removed and added the drive.
- I obviously used the free_locked_devs command and the backups on the other drive are working great.

- The drives are configured the same.
It's a problem in the DP or in the NetApp controller?
What i'm missing here?

backup job running, can i reboot the server?

new ly inserted tapes not showing

I just inserted 8 tapes into the slots.  I can see\format 5 of them looking at the Devices by host\...\slots.  I am not seeing the other 3 tapes.

 

I can see the other 3 in Media\Pools\All backup jobs.  I cannot format these tapes though as the format option is not available.

 

Any clue what's going on here?  Thanks..

backup job not starting...this is weird

Just found out today that one of my backup jobs have been failing.  When I try to go to the properties of the job, the backup software becomes unresponsive and I have to eventually close the application.  I deleted the job and created a new job.  I am getting the same problem though.  I can't even go to the properties of the new backup job.  I just get the hourglass.  When I go to the Task Manager, it says that the Graphic User Interface is not responding.  I had to do an end task as I can't do anything.

Backup Schedule missed or not starting in Data protector

Hello,

 

When checked backup status for some groups, the schedule was not started.

 

So the backup was not running for a long time. I have refreshed the backup specification eventhough the issue persist.

 

How to fix this issue ?

 

Note:the schedules are not disabled too.

mail daily bacckup getting Failed

Hi.. Friends.

 

I am using HP eml 103 4 drive enterprise backup library

Form last one week my daily mail backup getting fail

Total size of mail data is 750 GB.

Bckup start time: 09:00 PM daily

Every day backup media showing poor, which i think is not so.

Reallocate a license for autoloader?

upgradation of Data Protector 7 .03 To 8.0 or latest

Hiii

 

I am using data protector 7.03 and taking backup in HP D2D and DP is installed in win server 2008 Enterprice in Cluster mode in two server and Those Active Directory server install in Remote location.

I have license of total six Agent.

 

Can somebody let me know how to upgrade with latest :-

 

will license key require for upgrade  latest setup.

will activ Directory Pssword will require for uppgradation.

will cell manager only be need to upgrade or agent also.

StoreOnce error

Hi,

 

My StoreOnce 4700 device used as for several Catalyst stores has failed.  Several (but not all) of the stores are showing as "Failed to start" and so Data Protector backups are obviously failing.  Restarting the device has no beneficial effect.

 

The failed stores show a completely incorrect dedupe ratio of several million to one!

 

The event log shows a last error of, "[ssid1]: D2DManager process state has changed: Warning to Critical (SMM, ObjectStore)".

 

Any suggestions?

Sessions hanging or failing to complete in DP 9.01

Hi,

 

I've recently upgraded my environment to 9.01 on a W2K8 R2 cluster, and I've begun to notice some unusual behaviour.

 

We have an issue where a job seems to hang, yet the session drops out of the monitor context as if it has completed and is thus impossible to abort.

 

The sessions list in the Internal Database tab shows the job as running, however there are no corresponding BSM or CSM processes to be found on the CM's Task Manager.

 

The session logs of the affected jobs show no errors, they simply tail off, and the job itself doesn't time out after the usual interval.

 

The command omnistat only shows those sessions that are visible in Monitor.

 

Debug.log shows repeat entries of this message:

Data Protector 6.1 - fnames.dat file used 100%

Hi guys,

 

I have a Data Protector 6.1 and my IDB reached the limit of filenames on fnames.dat.

 

I create another file .dat in Data Protector GUI, but it is not used by Data Protector.

 

Is there any procedure to start the new file? Already stopped and started the processes.

 

In the past I have created other files, but I cant remember if I did something different.

 

This is my 4 fnames.dat, the other 3 files worked perfectly.

 

We will not run a purge files at this moment.

Full/Incremental backup status

I am running DP 7 on an HP-UX CM.  I have one system that all I do is file system backups.  I do 1 every other a day and keep the last weeks. Right now if I look in the internal database there are only incremntals.  If I manually kick off a backup, it too is just an incremental.  Where did my Full go?  How can I force DP to do a full?  what might I have misconfigured to lose my full?

Import Tape slow... what options do I have

We have to import several old tapes. I takes hours on our new DP Cell Manager (v9.02) to import a single tape.

Server is a BL460c G8, Windows 2008 R2 SP1, dual CPU (quad core), 16GB RAM

The import is running for 6 hours now and is only now almost at 800MB.

I guess there is almost 1,4TB on the tape so it will take several hours more.

Is this normal?

 

Can I do anything to make this faster?

 

I have the options: "Import Copy as Original" Do I have to do this?

I can also choose the loggin type: "Log All" or even "No Log"?

DP 7.0 Client Build 106 local installation in UNIX host

Dears,

 

We have got a requirement to install DP client 7 Build 106  Core in  some UNIX hosts locally without Installation Server access ( due to internal security issues). 

 

I have downloaded patch PHSS_43890 to update CORE to 106 , but this will applicable only to Installation server , do we have any procedure to upgrade client locally to build 106 without the need of installation server ?

Client Installation Aborting

Hi,

I'm using DP 7.00, I have a problem  with a client, I migrated a W2003 box in a new virtualized one W2008 R2, same name same IP due to application limitation.

So I already have the host in the cell manager.

 

I'm not able to add the client package, I get:

============================================================================

 

Communication works fine so to troubleshoot the problem I installed the software using the server share, running the wizard from the client this worked.

 

but from the server I can't add component or chek installation.

 

Someone have an idean on what to check ?

 

Any Help will be very appreciated.
