During an upgrade of Trilead Vmexplorer 5x to HPE VMExplorer 6.12 for instance, the MSI will default to a different directory path during install. This will still allow the migration over of the existing configuration from the "old" path to the "new" path. So it is safe to accept the new 6.2.1 defaults during installaiton, as the old configuration iwll be detected and migrate dto the new area

Failed session, Completed objects can't be copied to tape
Hi,
So, this weekend, we had a major failure with our D2D and most of the backup failed.
Even if the job/session 2016/06/03-6 failed, you can see in this picture that some object were, in fact, completed with success.
The problem is when I try to copy those completed with success objects on tape (from Object Operations / Object copy / interactive / sessions) I can't find the session 2016/06/03-6 as you can see in this picture.
Is there a way I can copy successfull objects in a failed session to tape without having to run the backup again ?

Backup specification was not saved when creating Internal Database DP9 + path 904
Hi Guys,
Would like to seek your kind inputs, suggestions in regards to the issue we are facing. we're not able to save Internal Database backup specification. please note that this is a mom environment and we just upgrade it from DP6.20 to DP9 + patch 904, everything seems working except creation of IDB backup.
I am not exactly sure if this has something to do with dcdirs or cdbsync. any repsonse is greatly appreciate.

HP Data Protector for SAP HANA backup
Hi,
We are planning to use HP Data Protector for SAP HANA backup. Below are the steps we are going to follow,
1. Install DP cell manager and Media manager on Virtual Machine with SUSE operating system on BL460 gen9 server.
2. As this is blade server in chassis 7000 which will connect to FC Tape Library MSL 4048
3. Take directly backup from SAP HANA applicance over 10Gbps backup network connected to Blade server (Cell Manager) through virtual connect VC Flex-10 interconnect modules.
Questions are as below,
1. Is this the correct way to setup the backup solution for SAP HANA?
2. As SAP HANA appliance has 10GB network speed but Blade server will not have similar network speed. So here the limitation to take direct backup from SAP HANA will depend on the actual network speed of blade server(Cell Manager) correct?
3. Please suggest if any other better backup solution for SAP HANA.

(DP) Support Tip: Capacity License calculations in 9.06
In DP 9.06, there is a change in Capacity License calculations (Total Protected Data) as compared to DP 9.05.
Here is the explanation why the calculated capacity could increase in compare to 9.05 capacity size:
- Calculation was previously based on bar lists (sessions entries), now it is based more on unique “objects” (i.e.: database instances, mount points,…)
- “orphaned” objects were not included into old calculations (i.e.: original backup sessions entries would not exist in IDB anymore– objects copies, consolidation session objects, …)
- i e.: object copies were not included in the calculation, 906 calculation also considers the object copies for calculation
- In worst case, result of old calculation would be 0 (i.e.: when original objects would be exported/un-protected and only copies/consolidations would exist)
2. Other main difference is that with old calculation only objects belonging to the latest sessions were included, now the biggest unique objects (still under protection) are included into calculation
3. Minor differences, which should not affect greatly on the final calculation: interactive session are now also included and completed objects with failures are also consider for calculation
To lower the overall size calculations, following should be considered:
Check and export all obsoleted objects (copies, consolidations, originals) which are not needed anymore/expired/replaced by newer backups (i.e.: if backup of some object in the past was bigger than the latest we will include the older bigger size in calculation).
In summary - most of the capacity increase could be the consequence of considering also the object copies in the calculation.

DP 9 Installation
Hi All,
I am fairly new to DP9 (having supported DP6 in the past) and would like to DL the free trial version of DP9 and run the Cell Manager on my ESXi 5.5 VM of Win2012 Server and deploy a DP Client to my XW Win7 workstation on the network (which has disk targets for storage pools) to deploy disk and media agents so that I may configure internal(SATA) and /external disks(USB) as media pools for backup. I am doing this all from my home and not in a work environment as I want to test this.
My VM sits on my HP Microserver where I have 2 x 3TB disks in a HW RAID10 config, is this all possible to set up and configure ok in the DP9 Trial as downloadable by HP? If it is, at a later stage I am going to rebuild my ZX6000 Itanium workstation with HPUX11.11 and try to install the DP Client and agents on there so I may utilise the attached DDS3 Tape Drive as a potential media pool. Does the initial idea sound all ok to you? I just want to get decent exposure and practice with DP9 so that I may work with it more in the future as I find it's capabilities amazing...
Your help and opinions would be most welcomed.

Object copy to tape
hi all ,
i have an isue when i 'm trying to copy objects on tape. When a number of backup finished on d2d , an automatic obgect copy starts to write those backup on a physical tape. When the copy object finsh, in some cases (always with diferent objects) it show me that some of the copied objects is 0 Kb without any warning or error. It seems that the session finished succesfully but inside you see that some objects it has 0 Kb.
Has anyone encoutering something similar?

License of Data Protector (DP) 9 often disappears.
Hello guys!
First I want say that I already have request in HP about my problem is #5309129736.
Next. My problem is described in the header of topic. Last 4/5 weeks we are have some problem with licence of DP 9. License on “Single Drive for Windows / Linux” began to desappear. Without this license DP don’t working. Reboot “omnisv” helps but not for a long time.
How can I repair it? Sure I don’t want reinstall and reconfigure all the DP.
I repeated, it problem began 4/5 weeks ago. Before it everything worked without wrangling.
HP support proposed a replace license file. But it has not helped to solve a problem. I know that the problem is as old as the world, it was in version 6, but how to solve it, nobody knows.
Please advise how solve it.

DP9.04 Advanced scheduler stops working
I have DP9.04 where advanced scheduler is used for MSSQL jobs only as we are doing nightly fulls and hourly trans log backups.
I've just created 30 new filesystem jobs. Created one then copied them at unix level and edited manually...
because the permissions were only "rw" and not "rw r r" on the new copied files, this caused the advanced scheduler to error with these backups specs (access denied) but then decided to stop working alrogether and no SQL backups ran for a week!!!
has anyone seen this ridiculous behaviour!?

When making a USB image for the Enhanced Disaster Recovery for Windows there is an undocumented log created called mkusb.log located in:
Program Files\omniback\bin\drim\log\
should the USB Boot image fail to get created this log will help in finding root cause.

Rawdisk image backup & Restore
Hi guys.
I'm testing DP 9.06 rawdisk functions, I'll like to be able to do a complete system restore from a Backup, so an image backup of my servers with DP looks like a great option.
So I've installed DP (9.06) on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and added a LUN to this server and the configure DP to do file library backups.
Backups are working like a charm, no problem. I looked up the web and find out the way to do a Disk Image, and doing it using [code] \\.\C: [/code] as when I use [code] \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE<number>' [/code] a mesasage is shown as files are locked so the backup can't be made.
So I've confirme that I can create a Disk Image backup, I went to restore section and under the Disk Image, my server is listed.
As i'm doing tests, I've choosed None for protection and None for Data security.
Then I installed another server from scratch, same model, same windows installation, same partition size, same everything, installed dataprotector, choose a restore from the server that I've create my disk image and then choose the server to be restore as client but after some seconds I received this message.

Everything was working properly when rrepente when I go to save any new backup copy me the following error message:

If I modify an existing no problem

Hi I am new to HP data Protector so please help me to know some questions:
1.) Why we do host entry while installing HP data protector on client and is it necessary to do host entry?

GUI runs slow when accessing certain clients
when i select clients in the GUI and click on a client they all gnerally show me the details within a second or so. But for some reason i have some linux clients which when i select the gui freezes for quite a while i.e. a minute or so and then it responds. Any idea what would cause it to be so slow.
I also get the same in backup specifications. If I select a backup with these clients in in takes a minute or so until DP will respond. It only seems to be on these clients.
Any Ideas
p.s. i'm running DP 7.03
