Backup specification device media pools question

Hello, first time posting, I have a Data Protector question.

Running DP A.08.10 build 201 on a windows server.

I have two LTO-5 tape drives with barcode scanners and a 48 slot library.

My monthly full is kept effectively forever, a weekly incremental 1 is kept for a few months and the daily incremental 2 is kept for a month.

We have about 8 backup specifications broken up by different server or application types.

I've got the advanced scheduler working, and am having the following issue:

I have tapes in the library that have one or two permanent objects and lots of inremental objects on them. The result is my library fills up and I have to manually defrag tapes by doing object copies.

On the backup specification I am only able to define one media pool.

My current solution is to duplicate all of my specifications, one being for fulls and one for the inrementals and point them at different media pools to avoid this. However now I have to maintain two backup specifications when a new directories or server is added.

Am I doing it wrong? Is this how it should work? Suggestions?

Thanks!
