VEPA: how to select backup objects based on wildcards?

We take backups of about 150 virtual Windows machines, for which we use VEPA integrations.

Selecting which machines to backup is straightforward, ask the vCenter server what virtual machines there are in the environment and back them up.

Three backup specs. have been setup, based on the three VMware resource pools  that can be seen in our VMware environment (managed by another team).

Problem is that two of the resource groups are small and one is very large.

For finetuning the load across VEPA agents and VLS’s, this is not desirable.

We would like to build backup specs. based on the use of wildcards. Let us say we have servers in the name range from srvr001 to srvr999.

Using wildcards, we would like to setup backup specs. like srvr0*, srvr1* and so on.

That way we would be able to differentiate more and balance the load over more servers running the VEPA agent.

Using wildcards cannot be accomplished through the DP GUI.

But as we all know, underlying the GUI there are plain text files that are used for building backup specs. (<disk>:\Program Files\OmniBack\Config\Server\BarLists\VEAgent).  We have been experimenting with the “path” parameter within these files, to select servers based on wildcards but to no avail.

Has anyone been able to get this to work (selecting based on wildcards) or  is this simply not possible? (We know Veeam can ;-)
