HI,
I want to setup multiple Data Stream in an environment that has large amount of data contained in one folder.
I have a SAS library with 4 LTO5 drives and I am using Data Protector 7.01 on a windows 2008 server.
So my goal is to backup my data using the best number of drives. The problem that I am facing is that I have a folder holding about 20TB of data which represent most of my data, and it will be growing fast.
I created a backup job which has 8 objects so using 2 DA per drive will use all my 4 drives and the backup will have about 27TB total. But as I said 20TB of that 27TB is held in one folder. First I am not sure that using 4 drives will be optimal because of the throughput that I can have from my SAN/Server and chances are that it will cause some shoe shinning (I will have to test it).
Is there is a way to stream one folder to multiiple drives at the same time? Of course we want to shorten the backup windows because we will not be able to complete a full backup on weekends in a near future.
I know that if I copy the objet selected,I can select some subfolders which can create more objets so more DA to start from the same filesystem but as the data and folders are very dynamic it can become a pain to manage.
So if someone has any suggestions, or if my understanding is wrong let me know, it will be appreciated.
Thank
