(DP) Support Tip: Be careful when mixing the "Log Directories" level with others for the same object

Hi,

The logging level is one of the options which can be set for a backup or object copy or consolidation. See the screen captures for the location in the "Backup" and "Object Operations" GUI context. The logging level determines the volume of detail on files and directories written to the IDB during backup, object copy or object consolidation sessions.

When using the "Log Directories" level during backup, the restore context will not show you any files contained in the selected directories. This is as expected. Now, please be careful when mixing the "Log Directories" level with others for the same object. The result will be that files, backed up with "Log Files" or "Log All" will become visible in the restore context. However, the version of the "Log Directories" backup will be missing. This is also as expected, but can become very confusing. For that reason, I would discourage the usage of "Log Directories" together with "Log Files" or "Log All" for the same object. Unless there's a very specific reason, it's recommended to stick to one and the same logging level.

Please also see my related DP Support Tip: Log level "Log Files" will not allow a fast single file restore.
