Hi,
I've discovered a potentially serious situation and I was hoping for some advice.
A user came to me to request a restore of files from a couple of nights ago. He supplied the names and location of the files, a location which I confirmed was the subject of a successful backup on the night in question.
When I opened the restore context, however, there was no record of the files in the IDB.
The search interval in restore is set to None, so if the files ever existed, they ought to show up, even if greyed out, yes?
But there's no record of the files having been backed up, and no 'open file' or other errors in the backup log. Indeed, the amount of data backed upon the night suggests that the files were, in fact, included.
What's more worrying is that this is not the first time this has happened. The week before last, a client requested a restore but I was unable to locate his files. I suggested to him that the process he uses to export his files must have failed, however he was adamant that it had not. Again, Data Protector reported no errors in the backup.
I'm at a loss to explain this - I've been working with Data Protector for almost 12 years now and this is new to me.
I'm running DP 9.02 in a Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster configuration. Backups run to virtual media on a VLS6227 and are then copied to physical media, whether post-backup or on a scheduled basis.
I would be grateful for any advice or suggestions people may have...
Thanks,
Bob
