One for the Experts...

Hi,

I'm running DP 9.02 in a W2K8 Failover Cluster configuration.

I have a VLS6227 that I use as a target for backups, from which data is then copied to physical media.

This morning, I was checking the overnights and found a mount request for a VLS medium. I responded to the mount request but it popped right back up. A check of the relevant slot on the VLS showed a blank medium, and the VLS media pool shows a dismounted volume.

It seems that somehow, the virtual tape and its catalog have become separated. I tried an import, but just got error messages. I haven't reformatted the volume yet.

There were no errors in the copy operation up to that point, but there is a Normal message [90:255] "Successfully loaded and dismounted busy drive" for the device in question.

My question, then, is "Is there a way to re-attach the catalog to the medium?"

If not, does the behaviour point to a potentially more serious problem with the VLS, or is this a one-off sort of thing?

I'd be interested to know what you think.

Thanks,

Bob
