Disk Media marked as poor

I am using DP 9.0. This is the second time that the disk media has been labeled as poor. The media shows up as red. Is there a good procedure to get rid of these media from the database and from the disk backup system altogether. This has us running into some ugly scenarios where store status showed up as "error". A top level search returned a "s.bad_integrity" file. Deleting that file didn't start the store. Getting rid of the contents of the "retired" folder started the store.

So, now I would like to extirpate the red/poor disk media sets completely from the whole environment - database, cell manager and the disk store. Any suggestions are welcome.
