Using multiple tape drives for backup

Hi,

We recently had one of our tape drives give us some trouble and I am looking at ways to minimize the impact of these incidents. We have two LTO 5 devices each with one drive. Each LTO is connected to a UNIX server via a fiber connection and a Windows server that hosts the cell manager. All clients are available to both servers.

We took our list of servers that we wanted to backup and devided it between the two devices and created two backup templates on the cell manager. Each backup takes about 2 hours to complete.

With the latest incident the tape drive was repaired withing 12 hours which is great but if it happens that it takes longer. Other than changing the one backup template to use the working tape drive, what other options are there.

My ideal setup would be to give the cell manager a list of all the clients that I want to backup and all the tape drives that are available and be done. The only requirement would be that I would not need two physical devices when restoring data.

Any advice and is this even possible?

Thanks.
