Asynchronous reading

Hi,

I have read documentation of the asynchronous reading and OB2DAASYNC and also performance whitepaper "Asynchronous reading was not designed for reading data from the same physical disk". I have still some doubts about when to use it and what it actually does and what speedups I can expect. I assume it uses Windows asyc file reading API and spawns multiple async reading operations at the same time. When the file bits are stored on multiple disks, this can, in theory, improve performance as the read might run in parallel on those disks. But as DP/Windows doesn't know how are file's bits physically stored, it also could be counterproductive. Do you have any practical experience with async reading performance?

Kind regards, Jan
