DP A07.03 - MS Exchange Single Mailboxes Backup Error Message when Backup Exchange 2007 Server.

 

After delete & re-create xxxxxx emailbox, the error message display in DP A07.03 backup MS Exchange Single Mailboxes backup log.

 

Below is error messgae

Cannot connect to media agent error

I have been successfully backing up a file server with several drives for months now.  But recently one of the drives has been failing with an error message of:

Cannot connect to Media Agent on system xxxxx, port 57804 (IPC Cannot Connect System error: [10061 Connection refused) => aborting.

The rest of the drives backup fine.

any ideas what might be causing this?

After update to HP Data Protector 9.0 build 87 from version 6.2 there is an error while pointing to restore object which locates on deduplication storage (StoreOnce software deduplication).

 

[12:10907] Invalid format of detail catalog binary file.

DC binary file that contains the data needed to browse the backup history is not in the expected format. You can browse the backup history but you will not see those versions of backed up files that were stored in that specific DC binary file. Typically this error indicates that the CDB part of the Internal Database and the DCBF part of the Internal Database are not consistent or that the binary file is corrupted. The debug.log file contains more details on which specific DC binary file in not in correct format.  

* Recover the corrupted DC binary file by executing the following procedure:   1) Stop all sessions and close all GUIs.   2) Remove the corrupted binary file.   3) Run omnidbutil -fixmpos command from the CLI.   4) Find and run "Import catalog" for the correct medium. Note that the      debug.log contains the medium ID of the file and that you can use omnimm      -media_info <mediumID> command. See the online Help topic "Overview of IDB      Recovery Methods" or chapter "Recovering the Data Protector Internal Database"      in the HP Data Protector Administrator's Guide for more information on the      recovery procedure of the Internal Database.

 

 

Omnidbcheck is OK.

Client missing in restore server list

Hi,

 

I have backed up a client but when I go to restore it the client name is missing from the target client list in the option in the destination tab of the restore session.

 

Any ideas?

Database Backup of DMZ server

Hello Team,

 

I am able to take file system backup of DMZ server as i opened bidirectional port for the same  and also configured OMNIRC file both on DA and MA and it was successful.

 

But now i want to take MSSQL DB backup of same server but i am not able to configure this backup.

 

Is it possible to take Database backup of DMZ servers???

File server backups.

We are having issues backing up several file servers due to the large number of small files.  We are currently backing up our file server by using file system backups.  These backups take days and then fail due to timeouts.  My qustion is anyone else having these type of issues.  We have a case open with HP but all they want are debugs and its been about a month with no solution.  Also is there a better option to use other then file system backups for file servers? 

 

We already have the variables put into the omnirc files.

xinetd filling up Messages Log

Hi Guys

 

On our DP9 CellServer the Messages-Log is filled up with thousands of Messages stating xinetd childs starting and stopping.

Any Idea what I have to modify to get rid of that?

Dataprotector strange behaviour

Hi

 

      I´am dealing with an strange behaviour for the last four days.

 

     The dataprotector console hangs doing some tasks, for instance, when trying to restart failed ojects. I can see that the omnirpt.exe takes 50% CPU and the backup never starts.

 

     there are many people that manages the server. Everyone has reported a very bad performance on the dataprotetor console (on remote consoles same behaviour); almost every time it ends in an app hang/crash (the "not responding" message from windows session)

 

     Yesterday I noticed four bdsm.exe processes were taking 100 cpu usage.

 

      I´ve been googling but can´t find any clue. for the last weeks we have been trying to restore from an anual backup tape and I´ve seen the IDB growing.

 

     Scheduled backups are working properly. the problem is that almost any human triggered task makes the console hangs, then crash and none of them are really performed.

 

      Any idea about this iisue? Can a huge internal database decrease the server performance in this way?

Backup size on lto 5tapes

We are observing strange issue here in dp 7.03 ,
We have lto5 tape size of 3 tb , while formattg size is default , and we are able to take only 200gb .
Data is only flat files nothing special.
What could be the reason ??

Backup NAS with data protector 9

Hi,

I have a question about the backup of NAS.
I'm using date protector 9 in windows environment.
I have a MSL4048 with two drive LTO5 fc directly attached.
I have to back up to 4 EMC NAS.
Unfortunately I do not have the NDMP agent so I will have to be backed up as a network share.

The size of the backup on my nas are these:


nas1 1.4 TB
nas2 0.9 TB
nas2 0.5 TB
nas4 0.8 TB

 

My question is the following:


What is the best and fastest way to backup the 4 NAS?


it is better to make a backup specification and attach all the NAS to only one host?

 

or

 

it is better to make a backup specification and attach 2 servers for 2 NAS (2 NAS to one other 2 NAS to another server)?

 

or

 

it is better to make a backup sepcification and attch the 4 NAS to the cell manager?

I am running DP 6.2 on windows 2003 and want P to V it as part of a mutistep upgrade project.

Can I move the changer control to another server and have the Cell as a VM?

I would like to move the 6.3 to a VM, update to 7 and then move to 8 or 9.

 

DP 6.11 IDB Restore

First -- Yes, I know DP 6.11 is old.  I don't have a lot of control over that as this is part of a customer project.

 

On to the issue:

 

I am working on a project where I am attempting to restore a DP 6.11 IDB.  Once the IDB has been restored the RDS service is constantly in the "starting" state if I look at the service and is "Down" in the 'omnisv -status' output.

 

The source DP 6.11 server is a Windows 2008 64-bit.

 

The destination server is running Windows 2003 32-bit.

 

Could that be part of my problem?  Will I run into issues if restoring the IDB from a Win2K8 64-bit system to a Win2K3 32-bit system?

 

If the answer is "yes" that this should work, then we can go down the path of trying to figure out why my RDS service isn't starting correctly.

Backup DR MS-Cluster

I take backups of MS-cluster-Host with DR.

At some hosts I get following error:

IDB issue after upgrade form DP7.0 to DP 9.0

Hi,

After upgrade from DP 7.0 to 9.02, I see all services are up and running  also IDB backup is successful, however following issues have been noticed.

 

1.IDB  backup shows size = 1.5 GB which was 7.5 GB on DP7.0

2.When tried  "omnimigrate.pl -report_catalog_migration"   it does not display any progress or not changein DCBF directories (either DB40 or DB80).Also no errors reported.

 

Is DCBF migration a mandatory step? If yes, what could be the reason that there is no change after running the command omnimigrate.pl -report_catalog_migration.

What could be the reason for reduced IDB size after upgrade to DP9.0?

 

Any assitance will be highly appreciated.

DP License Based on IP Address?

DP Gurus:

 

From reading through old posts, I've learned that DP was licensed based on IP address in the past. Is that still true today?

 

The company I work for recently purchased three racks (located in three different places) of two rx2800 i4 Serviceguard-clustered Integrity Servers (6 total Servers) running HP-UX 11i v3 with March 2014 patches. These Systems replace nine racks (located in three different locations) of three Serviceguard-clustered HP-9000 PA-RISC K-Series Servers (9 total). The old system runs Omniback on one of the Servers in each location. We have recently downloaded an Evaluation copy of DP 9.0. We have cloned the old System to create the new System. More specifically, we have used the same IP addresses, same hostnames, same network topology, etc. In effect, we dropped one of the Servers, and replicated the other two on the new Integrity Servers. Since the new Integrity Servers have the same IP addresses as the old HP-9000 Servers, and since we purchased Omniback in the past, do we have to pay any additional fees to make our Evaluation copy of DP 9.0 permanent...or do we just fill out the form with the same IP addresses and get permanent key for DP 9.0?
